Hell, Debtags maintainer now works, as of debtags 1.5.4.
I'd like to close this bug, but I can't because there's another bug inside. Big shame on Justin Prizby, who's one of the biggest bug reporters but still hasn't learnt to put one issue per report. So, 'debtags maintainers' now works, and I'm retitling this bug to address the other issue, which is quite minor, so I'm decreasing severity as well.
