Package: bitlbee Version: 0.91 Severity: wishlist I'd suggest charset to be set to none as said in help set charset (instead of iso8859-15) in which case strings would just be assumed to be UTF-8 and copied as-is. Additionnally, the string should be tested whether to be a valid UTF-8 string ; if it's not, bitlbee could send a message to the user saying that the string they sent was not valid UTF-8 and that they should set the charset correctly with set charset.
