Hi!
We are having severe problems with pdns and recursion. If the
allow-recursion-override option is off (default), pdns most of the time
does act properly. Though, if you have a slave zone in it and you get a
request for an entry not in the zone it returns NXDOMAIN as expected,
but as non-autoritative answer, after querying the master server for the
domain. For having rbl zonefiles this is higly annoying, because the
master server gets bombarded with queries though the server has it as
slave zone itself and does its axfr transfers on zone updates.
Setting allow-recursion-override to on does eliminate this. Though,
setting it to on raises a different problem: For delegated subdomains
(like, having bar.baz as master domain and foo.bar.baz IN NS
some.other.server.ip) it does only answer with the nameserver entry and
does _not_ do any recursion anymore. This destroys classless reverse
delegation posibilities.
I hope I was clear enough in explaining the problem, and with the
examples I've given you hopefully will agree with the severity for the
bugreport. I tried to raise the issue on the pdns-user mailinglist
already, though got no response there. Maybe you have better contact to
the developers, and/or are able to track the issue down if you are
familar with the code basis yourse.
Just for your information, the problem isn't solved in the recent
2.9.20 release, I prepared an updated package for that myself, appart
from that it works quite fine.
So long,
Alfie
Hi,
I forwarded this to the developer and he has seen it. So I hope he can
find a solution for this problem.
