Package: lightdm
Version: 1.26.0-4
Severity: minor

I have the following issue with a machine using sysvinit (I don't
think that sysvinit is the culprit, just that it makes the problem
visible). This has occurred for several months now (perhaps after
the upgrade from 1.18.3 to 1.26, but I'm not sure).

When I click on "Restart", I get a dialog box to confirm, which I do,
but then nothing seems to occur. I had the habit to do the same thing
again, which had the effect to effectively restart immediately. So,
I thought that the first Restart was not taken into account.

But what actually occurs is that the shutdown starts, and I can see
the end of the shutdown once lightdm is killed as a consequence of
the shutdown.

So the fact that nothing seems to occur is bad information given
to the user. I suspect that this issue does not occur with systemd
because the shutdown with systemd is much faster as parallelized
(though I'm wondering what would occur is specific shutdown
dependencies would temporarily block it before lightdm is killed).

Shouldn't lightdm quit when the shutdown is started? This would
probably solve this issue and allow the user to see the first
shutdown messages. Or would there be drawbacks?

Alternatively, lightdm (or the greeter?) could display a message
saying that a shutdown was initiated, but if something blocks the
shutdown, the user would not be able to see that.
