Package: src:linux
Version: 4.19.37-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I have just updated my notebook (Acer C-740, originally a Chromebook) from
stretch to buster.
While in stretch everything was fine, after upgrading to buster console output
is broken.
I see just a black screen which flashes about every second. grub and X output
are fine.
When switching from X to console, I get again the flashing. Switching back to X
everything is good.
In addition I found out that the boot process takes about 10 s longer than
normal.
When I start the system with the old stretch kernel which is still installed,
everything
is fine.

To make grub console output work I had to add "GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768x16" to
/etc/default/grub.
However, I did this when initially installing debian some time ago (maybe
jessie).

I tried the 4.19 kernel image from Sid but it did not make a difference.

I also tried to put nomodeset to the kernel command line. Then I get a readable
console,
but X doesnt start.

Also tried different grub options with no success.

Regards,

Jürgen
