Package: dpkg Version: 1.18.25 Severity: wishlist On a package upgrade/reinstall dpkg should show a warning about a missing config file that is not recovered from the *.deb file.
It is pretty unlikely that a config file has been deleted on purpose. It is much more likely that a config file has been lost by accident. (For my own part, I would replace it with a comment, instead of removing the whole file.) Without a warning shown by dpkg a lost config file is very hard to spot. Just a suggestion, of course.
