I just ran into this issue with [1]. Applying the patch from Pierre-Elliot worked for me and saved me a lot of work otherwise needed for workarounds. I understand the intention to produce a more sustainable solution with #902856. Unfortunately the resonance to that wishlist bug is zero for one year now. With source-only uploads now being mandatory for bullseye I want to ask to reconsider the inclusion of the patch. It can be replaced as soon as there is a result on #902856, but until then can can be of high value for maintainers needing this feature.
