Dear Maintainer,

After an upgrade to buster (from stretch) my mipsel chroot qemu container
failed to start.
The reported error was:
   qemu: Unexpected FPU mode

A quick search lead to:

   https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg611477.html

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/419651860/0001-1825002-fix-mips-Unexpected-FPU-mode.patch

So I downloaded the source (apt-get source qemu-user-static seems to get
all of qemu), applied the above patch and rebuilt with dpkg-buildpackage.

I installed the resulting qemu-user-static_3.1+dfsg-8~deb10u1_amd64.deb
package and all is now OK (for me).

So the Debian package needs this patch....
