$ uname -a Linux basil 5.2.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.2.17-1 (2019-09-26) x86_64 GNU/Linux > > Try to force the CIFS version with vers= in the mount options. At the time, I tried 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, and 3. If I remember correctly, 1.0 gave me a different error message, but still failed to mount. 3.0 (I think) and 3 gave the error above. I don't remember which error I got for 2.[01], but it was one of the two. If it would be useful, early next week I can try temporarily upgrading samba on the server and running mount on the client with the --verbose option. If there is anything else I should try at that time, let me know. If it makes any difference (I don't think so), the version of samba on my client is 2:4.11.1+dfsg-2, and mount.cifs works correctly with the older version of samba on the server. ...Marvin
