Commenting out the START= line in /etc/default/slimserver causes the server to not start (which is what I wanted), the test in /etc/init.d/slimserver seems to be for the existance of $START, not its value.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ head /etc/default/slimserver # Set this to zero to disable slimserver startup. #START=0 Dave -- http://www.morgad.no-ip.info/index.html gpg:0x64B5E037 Distributed Proofreaders: http://www.pgdp.net The NTP server pool http://www.pool.ntp.org http://stellar-attraction.com/
