Indeed, it is a duplicate! I added "essiv" to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and regenerated the initramfs and everything worked flawlessly. Thanks a lot, and sorry to not have found this bug report. The fact my other laptop worked is probably due to it having been set up last year whereas the machine that had problem has been set up several years before, so probably with different default encryption.
