I would consider this a poor design choice. However, this design is inconsistent. If I use "-vo null", i.e. only play audio, then everything works as I expect, i.e. the audio continues running. To summarize: *) With video: audio breaks down when switching to VT *) Without video: audio continues when switching to VT I believe there is a bug somewhere, although I hope in the future audio will always continue playing.
