Hey. Just wondered whether there is some way do finally fix this?
The upstream bug has been closed as wonfix, ... upstream explains in detail that they're not going to change this in: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1346#c12 One "solution" would be obviously to keep /etc/default/locale empty, but that of course means that any local user will also not have any default locale set. Directing the users to just set their locale on the remote .profile or using tricky with intermediate envvars is obviously also no real solution. Removing pam_env for ssh would mean users could in principle end up with no LANG set... (which would IMO still be better than what we have now). Doesn't seem that pam_env supports a non-overriding mode for envfile= ... so maybe ask for a feature there? Cheers, Chris.
