Package: coreutils Version: 5.2.1-2.1 Followup-For: Bug #361799
Hi, I'm also unable to upgrade from 5.2.1 to 5.94, but with a different error (Reading database ... 210062 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace coreutils 5.2.1-2.1 (using .../coreutils_5.94-1_i386.deb) ... Removing `local diversion of /usr/share/man/man1/md5sum.textutils.1.gz to /usr/share/man/man1/md5sum.1.gz' dpkg-divert: error checking `/usr/share/man/man1/md5sum.1.gz': Read-only file system dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/coreutils_5.94-1_i386.deb (--unpack): subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 2 Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/coreutils_5.94-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) As you can see, I am getting an error about a read only file system. However /etc/mtab looks like this /dev/hda1 / ext3 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 proc /proc proc rw 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs rw 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw 0 0 tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,gid=5,mode=620 0 0 /dev/hda5 /usr ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hda6 /var ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hda7 /home ext3 rw 0 0 /dev/hdd1 /usr/local/scratch ext3 rw 0 0 tmpfs /dev tmpfs rw,size=10M,mode=0755 0 0 so as you can see /usr (and everything else) is mounted rw.
