I confirm it builds and works for basic usage (read email over IMAP, send email over SMTP, played quite a bit with the new OpenPGP support), so I've pushed the proposed patch to the debian/experimental branch. Regarding "fully working", for a program the size of Thunderbird, I would need you to set clearer expectations before I can pretend my testing meets them: I certainly did not test every single feature :) Note that this does not entirely solve #967771 yet: while the runtime dependency is gone, the build-dependency is still there. I confirm the upstream build system requires it ⇒ tagging accordingly.
