Package: man-db
Version: 2.9.3-2
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Seeing a line ending with "..." in the output of "man -k ...".

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

For example "man -k axfer":

   * What was the outcome of this action?

axfer (1) - command-line sound recorder and player for sound devic...
axfer-list (1) - dump lists of available sound devices and nodes to tra...
axfer-transfer (1) - transferrer of audio data frame for sound devices and ...

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Lines without the "..." (or complete lines).

###

(The same applies to other commands that output lines from the
database.)

Lines from the database should be output uncensored (untrimmed).

Each line is independent. (The output is not a "connected sum" of
lines (paragraph).)

Users should get all the information in each line.

If a user wants to trim lines he should do it himself or be given an
option to accomplish that.

(option -l): malfunctional "Name" sections should not be "hidden" by
default, but exposed so that they can be fixed as soon as possible.

###

This all means that the option "-l" (--long) should be the default
operation.

Add an option to implement the current default length restriction.

###

The longest line in my database is for "axfer" (package "alsa-utils").
