Please have a look at the date this patch was introduced! This patch is since 2008 applied to every version of Icedove and Thunderbird and did only a fine tuning since then. This was and is mostly done by Mike how is maintaining the Firefox package.
At the time this patch was originally created I haven't contributed anything to Debian. I've to admit I even don't know exactly what this patch was and is about or why this patch was introduced. But as this patch is still used no change on the user side did happen. -- Regrads Carsten Schoenert
