can we please stop this useless discussion. There isn't something that the Thunderbird package needs to wait on. There are the control fields Depends and Breaks that declare the relation of packages. If the user is installing Add-ons then he is doing this on his own and needs to in specific case talk to upstream if something isn't working well. This all isn't a Debian specific issue, it is also happen with the upstream packages of Thunderbird. -- Regards Carsten Schoenert
