Until recently however the ancient PDB file format was used by many programs but that format has since long been deprecated. This library contains code to read and write mmCIF files. It also contains validating code to check the integrity and validity of mmCIF files. As a bonus, this library is capable of importing and exporting PDB files which is not trivial. The code greatly benefits from the CCP4 distribution being available, but does not require it to work. The current DSSP in Debian needs to be replaced with a new version soon, this new version of DSSP will require libcifpp. The Debian Med team will take care of maintenance.
