Hi Guido,

I work on Endless OS (www.endlessos.org) which is a derivative of
Debian. We carry a number of patches to cups-pk-helper to address bugs
present in Debian which are fixed in Ubuntu:
 - a polkit policy that grants admin rights to members of the lpadmin
group
 - a separate UID for cups-pk-helper which is a member of the lpadmin
group, meaning job management works correctly (as detailed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-pk-helper/+bug/934291 )

These issues are not meaningfully fixable upstream as cups-pk-helper is
just a mechanism and the policy is intended to be distro-determined.
The lpadmin group and CUPS configuration is up to each distro, but at
least for Debian derivatives it makes sense that these issues can be
addressed once and then Ubuntu and other derivatives (such as Endless
OS) not need to diverge and carry the same patches.

I see from https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=698504#44
that you are open to assistance with the package, which we're happy to
offer.

I'm wondering if you would consider a) moving the package into to the
printing-team on Salsa, and there b) we can send some patches to
address the above issues and lower the delta between Debian and Ubuntu
/ Endless OS.

Let us know if this would be of interest.

Many Thanks,
Rob
