I wouldn't say that inkscape "expects" them.
It's just looking to see if they exist in case the user wants to use
some inkscape-specific fonts.

That said, I'll ask upstream what they think about toning down the lines
at DEBUG level, so they don't show up by default.  Or at least INFO,
those warnings are overrated imho.
