What's going on is much clearer if groff Git HEAD, thanks to its improved `assert()` implementation. $ printf '.ta T -5\n\t' | tg troff: ../src/roff/troff/env.cpp:2620: distance_to_next_tab(): assertion failed: 'lastpos > 0' .../groff/build/groff: error: troff: Aborted (core dumped) I'll have a look at this.
