Hello John, this backtrace has strong similarities to that one in bug #914249. There I asked the submitter for the output when gimp is started from the terminal, if the issue is reproducible, but received no answer.
It would also good to know which steps were taken to receive this crash. But this version is part of the buster release, which moved to oldstable lately, so the effort put into that version might be decreasing. Kind regards, Bernhard https://bugs.debian.org/914249
