Dear Andrey and ftpmasters, I'm the primary uploader for this package.

The FTBFS with 3.9 bug isn't fixed upstream and > there are upstream maintenance problems documented at > https://github.com/jorgenschaefer/elpy/issues/1884 > Thank you for reminding me about this upstream thread. Yes, it's definitely time that I post another follow-up message there. Could we please defer this removal until at least 2022-03-07 as a reasonable compromise? I think it's uncharitable and ablist to put more pressure than that on a project whose maintainer is suffering from hand injury/tendonitis...these things take a long time to resolve--years, not months--and if we're a project that truly believes in diversity, empathy, and equal opportunity, then we must accommodate people who are struggling. I'm also not sure what would be a sensitive way to broach a deadline upstream. Sure, proposing a deadline and a plan can definitely be an opportunity to show leadership, and in thinking about this possibility I'm coming up with a concrete structure of goals/sprints to make progress...but in doing this I would become the defacto upstream maintainer, and that's something I know I won't be able to commit to long-term. Would it be enough to couch my involvement with some kind of disclaimer like "I'm doing this temporarily with the objective of training my (and Gaby Launay's) replacement"? And also of course that I'm not the best person for the job! I confess that I'm not a good enough Python programmer to just fix all the problems myself. Yes, I agree that at some point, if the project is dead, then it should be removed from Debian. I also appreciate the notice that I haven't done everything I could reasonably do for the success of Elpy. You're right (see above). Thank you, Nicholas P.S. Never have I hidden a problem by disabling a test that was arguably relevant to a Debian QA context. I'm also strict about not uploading anything that has outstanding issues.
