Subject: /lib/udev/eciadsl: $PRODUCT is not defined! This script should be run by hotplug Package: eciadsl Version: 0.11-3 Severity: important
*** Please type your report below this line *** I have recently upgraded a Sarge system to Etch. That system is connected to the internet using an ALE150 USB ADSL modem. I have previously configured it using the package eciadsl-usermode 0.11 with the required local tweaks to load the firmware using hotplug and start the connection with pon. I have recently upgraded that system to Etch and tried to use the Debian eciadsl package. I have set FIRMWARE_FILE1 and FIRMWARE_FILE2 in /etc/default/eciadsl and tried connecting the device. The "link" led sis not even blink". A look in the log showed the error message: $PRODUCT is not defined! This script should be run by hotplug. As the script only uses $PRODUCT to get the vendor ID and product ID and does not use the device itself, I could have easily removed that check and assigned contant values. After I did that, it still failed to load firmware and I ended up replacing most of the script with my original firmware loading script. (I don't have access to that computer for now, so I can't give better details for now, sorry) So regarding the original problem: either have the udev RUN command pass the vendor/product IDS explicitly or figure them out somehow. The script should not assume it has PRODUCT and ACTION set. (right? I'm not so familiar with udev). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-686 Locale: LANG=he_IL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=he_IL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages eciadsl depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an Versions of packages eciadsl recommends: ii ppp 2.4.4b1-1 Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) daem ii udev 0.088-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
