Using the following path in the GUI works also:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/fpc/$fpcversion/units/x86_64-linux/*
So the issue seems more that the IDE does not parse /etc/fpc.cfg rather than not
expanding the configuration variables.
Not sure if this is Debian specific or is also the case of upstream binaries.
I'll check with upstream.
