$ emacs -q -nw /tmp/k.pl
Now look in *Messages* buffer to find:
End of `y= ... =' string/RE not found: (scan-error Unbalanced parentheses 49 58)
Removing the -nw also removes that line from *Messages*!!:
$ emacs -q /tmp/k.pl
However that must just be a side effect, etc.
