I must be missing something here. In /etc/default/zfs the option "ZFS_LOAD_KEY='yes'" exists. I have it enabled and during boot ZFS asks me to input the passphrase for my encrypted root pool.
The only thing I do different than most is have a ext4 /boot for grub and init
and kernel booting, but I don't see that being an issue. I'm also running ZFS
2.1.5-1~bpo11+1 and SysV init and not systemd.
