So for the record I went here with NCDU instead of MC. It looks great.
Here's how to invoque it:
cpigs -e | ncdu -f -
in the future "cpigs" could automagical detect that stdout is a TTY and in
this case launch ncdu itself,
for more convenience. This could be overridden by "cpigs -e | cat".
