Version: 1.0.13-7

Dear Maintainer:

Today I tried to build this package from source and this is what happened:

   dh_missing -i -O--buildsystem=octave
   dh_octave_substvar -i -O--buildsystem=octave
   dh_installdeb -i -O--buildsystem=octave
   dh_gencontrol -i -O--buildsystem=octave
dpkg-gencontrol: error: bad line in substvars file
 debian/octave-vrml.substvars at line 2
 dh_gencontrol: error: dpkg-gencontrol -poctave-vrml -ldebian/changelog
-Tdebian/octave-vrml.substvars -Pdebian/octave-vrml returned exit code 255
dh_gencontrol: error: Aborting due to earlier error
 make: *** [debian/rules:7: binary-indep] Error 2
 dpkg-buildpackage: error: debian/rules binary-indep subprocess
 returned exit status 2

The file debian/octave-vrml.substvars seems in fact to be broken:

 octave:Depends=octave (>= 7.3.0), octave-linear-algebra,
 octave-miscellaneous, octave-statistics
 , octave-struct
 octave:Upstream-Description=3D graphics using VRML
 misc:Depends=
 misc:Pre-Depends=

After getting this build failure for the first time I tried to build it more times to be sure and it failed most of the time, but not always, so be warned that the bug is random and you might have to try several times before getting a build failure.

For what is worth: The failure also happens here, so I'm quite confident that my build environment is not to blame:

https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/logs/unstable/amd64/octave-vrml_1.0.13-7.build2.log.gz

[ I'm using X-debbugs-cc with debhelper maintainers in case they have something to say about this ].

Thanks for the bug report.

The issue is caused by a bug in the dh_octave_substvar script, from the dh-octave package. I am looking at it. More to come soon.

Best,

Rafael Laboissière
