Could you please explain a little more? All the files I generated had the current time in it. Can you check the output of: openssl x509 -in cert.pem -noout -text It should show both the start and end date. I also can't find the text you mention in the manpage. Also, there is a -startdate and -enddate option. Maybe they fixed this in some 0.9.7X release. I'm only looking at 0.9.7e-3sarge1 So, it seems to me that this was fixed.
