I can confirm that the issue is still present.There are patches proposed at https://bugs.debian.org/979354. I think they should be applied before the bookworm freeze. There are other patches sitting on Salsa.
I'm a bit reluctant to do a NMU as I'm not familiar with this package, and I don't know if the patches proposed in #979354 are enough of a fix, or if there's more to it.
