Did this happen during an upgrade that switched the initsystem to systemd?
These seem ultimately harmless, and installation continues, but it is
nonetheless annoying to have error messages during installation, and it
also suggests that an error return code is ignored here.
Is this still reproducible nowadays?
I don't think this noise comes from dkms, but probably from depmod. In
case you get a system in that state, does running depmod manually (with
appropriate flags ...) produce the same error messages?
