Hi. I wasn't maintaining the project for at least 12 years. But there are indeed several people who move it forward. You might have better luck contacting them on the GitHub issue tracker.
You might also consider doing the debian maintainer work (porting, packaging, etc) yourself (as I did about 15 years ago). Finding someone who'll upload the package for you is usually not a problem.
