Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: Antoine Beaupré <anar...@debian.org>
Control: affects -1 src:markdown-toc-el

I intend to orphan the markdown-toc-el package.

The package description is:
Markdown-toc is a simple Emacs addon that parses a Markdown buffer
and creates a handy table of contents. It can also refresh an
existing TOC to reflect updates to the body of the document. When
writing a standalone markdown document, when one cannot rely on
external tools, rely on markdown-toc. It provides greater control
over output levels and headings than Pandoc's --toc.

This package was broken when the native-compilation feature was enabled in
Debian's Emacs package. Meanwhile, the upstream maintainer appears to have
been MIA since 2021, and it looks like the future of this package is in peril
if someone does not fork it upstream.

I hope someone else might be able to figure out why native-compilation breaks
this package, or how safely implement a workaround in debian-autoloads.el (
https://manpages.debian.org/testing/dh-elpa/dh_elpa.1.en.html#Debian-specific_Lisp_customizations).

If not, I think markdown-toc-el should be removed when trixie is
released. Once again, the only reason that I'm not filing a RM RoM
right now is so users can discover the workaround at #1036359
(https://bugs.debian.org/1036359)

The last team-maintained copy of markdown-toc-el is available at:
