the package should not be available only for linux on i386 and amd64. Other OS (hurd, kfreebsd) have i386 and amd64 cpus. It should be available at least on i386 hurd-i386 kfreebsd-i386 amd64 kfreebsd-amd64 Also other CPU have PCI bus and <sys/io.h> available.
