I understand Thomas' approach to clean up the list of bugs for the team.
There is no point of keeping reports which are lying in the BTS for 10 
or more years IMO.
They are just filling up the bug list, making it difficult to see the real 
issues.

OTOH there are always people supporting the other view, pointing to 
the "Debian does not hide its problems" rule. (That was my 
experience in the d-i team, too.)

It's an unthankful job.

The main problem is the lack of manpower, in most teams. The 
rest are only nuances. 


Recently I disovered a project (it's part of Lineage OS, an open 
source smartphone OS, powering my Fairphone), where cases 
are closed automatically, when there is no activity for more than 3 
months...
Maybe a bit fast, but probably it shows the reality: 
either people are working on the issue immediatley, or never.

The solution could be, to set them wontfix, but where is the real difference 
then?
