If/when gtk2 support is actually removed from Debian, a variation on the theme suggested in #1008060 would seem like a good path forward. We could just replace the 'pcb' meta package with one that depends on pcb-rnd, which is an evolving and well-supported fork that retains complete compatibility for working with designs developed in 'pcb'.
