Package: wireshark Version: 4.2.0-1 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: j...@debian.org
Breaks are not intended to be used without a version, it essentially triggers the coded path to upgrade the broken package. The correct relationship to use here is Conflicts as per policy 7.6.2, "Replacing whole packages, forcing their removal". Note that using Breaks means that you can end up in a not-fully-consistent state where wireshark-qt is just deconfigured. APT's behavior of removing packages in this case rather than allowing an inconsistent state like that is not part of policy. This may break other solvers who rely on the Conflicts+Replaces special semantics per 7.6.2, such as downstream ubuntu-release-upgrader. -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers noble APT policy: (500, 'noble'), (500, 'mantic-security') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.5.0-10-generic (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C.UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages wireshark depends on: ii libc6 2.38-3ubuntu1 ii libgcc-s1 13.2.0-6ubuntu1 ii libgcrypt20 1.10.2-3ubuntu1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.78.1-4 ii libminizip1 1.1-8build1 ii libnl-3-200 3.7.0-0.2 ii libnl-genl-3-200 3.7.0-0.2 ii libnl-route-3-200 3.7.0-0.2 ii libpcap0.8 1.10.4-4 ii libqt5svg5 5.15.10-2 ii libqt6core5compat6 6.4.2-4 ii libqt6core6 6.4.2+dfsg-19 ii libqt6gui6 6.4.2+dfsg-19 ii libqt6multimedia6 6.4.2-11 ii libqt6printsupport6 6.4.2+dfsg-19 ii libqt6widgets6 6.4.2+dfsg-19 ii libspeexdsp1 1.2.1-1 ii libstdc++6 13.2.0-6ubuntu1 ii libwireshark17 4.2.0-1 ii libwiretap14 4.2.0-1 ii libwsutil15 4.2.0-1 ii wireshark-common 4.2.0-1 Versions of packages wireshark recommends: ii libqt5multimedia5-plugins 5.15.10-2 wireshark suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- debian developer - deb.li/jak | jak-linux.org - free software dev ubuntu core developer i speak de, en
