When Thunderbird is not running in GNOME or without gnome-settings-daemon running, the font displayed on UI elements such as buttons and menus, and message and folder listings appears roughly 2pt too large compared to that specified in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and respected by all other applications using GTK+ 2. For example, using Bitstream Vera Sans at 9pt with X running at 100x100dpi, the text in menus and folder and message listings will be drawn at 11pt.
