Bug #351561 happens on my iBook G3 (ppc) too, under evilwm (a really
small window manager):

gdesklets 0.35.3-1
To clarify, it's not 'uppercase letters' that don't work, it's the Shift
keys. Caps lock works as usual. So you can still type uppercase
letters if needed, but not the many symbols requiring shift.
As soon as the daemon is stopped, everything works again.
