I currently patch around this with:
sed "s/^\.BI \(\\\\.*\)\"\\\\c$/.BI \1\"/" | sed "s/^\.BR 
\(\\\\.*\)\"\\\\c$/.BI \1\"/" 

However, po4a is about to get fixed (Martin told me (#1036826) he intends 
to release later this month). So maybe we wait a few weeks and
potentially this bug can be closed without any further action from
your side.
