Furthemore, 1.4.1-1 has the exact same problem, so it appears this has not been fixed in upstream.

I get the same results. It's quite annoying when watching a widescreen
DVD in fullscreen mode, because any movement of the mouse will show the
controls, which will then never be blanked over.
