Returning to this after a while: I think the above -- setting LC_ALL
in logcheck.conf  is probably the best solution available.

So we might even close this bug, as im not sure what else logcheck can do?

Thanks for testing. I suppose the underlying issue is in grep. I hope
that later versions of logcheck will allow to swap grep for ag or
ripgrep -- but they are faster at the cost of more RAM, at least
sometimes
