Hans Ekbrand:
With XkbModel set to "macintosh" instead of "macintosh_vndr" xdm would not accept plain english characters (it would only accept numbers and non-english characters, i.e. the special swedish characters that I cannot type in this terminal).
After further testing I can now say that both XkbModel "pc105" and "macintosh_vndr" work fine on the Finnish keyboard of my TiBook (the umlaut problems were due to bash). Now the question arises, why change the name of the keyboard model from "macintosh" to "macintosh_vndr", which (maybe) breaks every apple laptop on upgrade?
