It works, yes. And thanks. IMHO, this should be more widely publicized as finding the origin of the problem might not be easy when one is not a Emacs guru. I actually also wonder *why* the change was made. Initially, you marked the 312883 bug as "wontfix" if I read correctly the bug log..:) I suggest writing down a small README file, maybe and use NEWS.Debian to point users to it.
