As for dependency, I didn't like to create cyclic dependency which can cause nightmare for packaging resolver. * debian-reference-common -> debian-reference : if changed to recommends * debian-reference-> debian-reference-common : depends Since issue is AppStream specific, I think it is best not to tweak dependency to solve issue using AppStream based solution. Since I don't use AppStream, I am not so well versed. Can you point me to the resource I can learn how to force appstrem to point to debian-reference. (I vaguely remember Appstream's fall-back logic for picking package is via Desktop file if no configuration is found. ) Osamu
