I am both upstream and Debian maintainer of this program. This daemon was used primarily for connecting subnets of network 44 a couple decades ago. The Linux tun driver largely obsoleted the need for this daemon, and I haven't personally used it in over a decade. Reviewing the changelog, the last substantive work on this code was in late 1998. I suspect it still "works", but updating the ancient sources to compile with gcc 15 doesn't seem work the effort to me. I think it's time to admit we don't need this in Debian any more.
