Hi
Yes, running chromium --disable-gpu "solves" the problem...
Great, thanks, so it is related to the video card hardware.
I wonder why this option is not in the manpage, I might descover this by
myself.
It's only in the past year that it works, since it falls back to using
swiftshader and we (debian) had swiftshader disabled for many many
years. So that's the main reason it's not documented.
Now I'm wondering the best place to document this. It could be in
reportbug, where it would say to try --disable-gpu; I'm not sure how
many people would check the manpage? In an ideal world chromium itself
detects the GPU initialization failure and falls back to another option,
but clearly upstream messed that up.
My graphics card:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 610] (rev a1)
Since upgrade to Debian 13 that i'm stuck with the nouveau driver, this card
uses an old driver, it does not compile with the new kernels and there will be
no more updates for it
I would suggest filing a bug upstream
(<https://issues.chromium.org/issues>) saying that your video card is
broken with newer versions. Since your GPU is from 2012, there's no
guarantees that it'll get priority, but at least it will be documented
upstream for other users who are suffering from the same breakage. It
would be better if you filed the bug, since they might want you to test
things out on your hardware.

Hi,
This is most certainly a hardware-specific bug, as I've not seen it
anywhere else. Can you please try running chromium with
and report back?
Thanks,
Andres

Version 140 should not be in Debian stable 13
It just shows a blank page, menus open in transparent with almost none
opacity (difficult so see the items)
Can't write on the address bar (nothing shows), clicking on favorites
nothing shows besides the blank page, and these favorites are also
transparent like the menu.
Of course, no error messages at all, just a white window and an unusable
bar at the top.
This was present in
chromium_140.0.7339.80-1~deb13u1_amd64.deb
and it is still in
chromium_140.0.7339.127-1~deb13u1_amd64.deb
rolling back to the last 139 solves the problem
i'm using now chromium_139.0.7258.154-1~deb13u1_amd64.deb
and it's all fine
my system is Debian 13.1, KDE, Nvidia with the Nouveau driver.
If you need more info just ask, I believe this as something to do with
graphic rendering, but not sure...
