I have tried doing the same as above using latest nvidia-settings
sources from Debian (1.0+20060516), but I get the same error, that I
report, on ./configure for sensors-applet:

configure: error: The NV-CONTROL library file cannot be used! make sure
you have installed nvidia-settings.
make: *** [config.status] Error 1
debuild: fatal error at line 1224:
debian/rules build failed
